Pastor Bill speaks from 1 John 2:28-3:3.
If we want to experience God’s renewing presence in our lives, purifying our hearts intentionally is imperative. The main idea is ‘everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself as He is pure.’ The backdrop of the passage is the love of God; ‘see what great love the Father has lavished on us…’
Yet intentionally pursuing God by purifying ourselves is vital. The opposite of that is tolerating sin in our lives and putting up with things that we know grieve God even when God is speaking to us about such things. There is intentionality to this. It is a pathway we choose and a pathway that opens up for us the manifest presence of God.
This is the fourth message in our current series of sermons – PATHWAYS TO THE KING – which is tracking with Rob Reimer’s book by that same name. We are working through this book in our small groups to start the year off.
This sermon parallels with chapter three of the book – “Purity”
